Health: The ONE Thing That Matters

DONATE TODAY

Press Release: November 2020 - BS4K Covid Program Alert

Consistent with our desire to meet the needs of underserved youth through-out the country, we are pleased to update the progress we have made helping out Boys & Girls Clubs, particularly given the COVID situation and its many constraints relating to group activity.

We at One for Health (OFH) have been actively engaged with over 30 clubs in 10 states the past few years. During the last 6 months we have transformed our Wellness programs to fit the new needs of the clubs (adding online programs, using Zoom, employing hybrid models). Perhaps even more importantly, we have also added a critical new program to help kids get proper nutrition during and after the COVID pandemic.

We completed pilots of a new hybrid program model (combining onsite instruction, online videos, and Zoom) with 8 clubs last spring in Washington DC, which was extremely well received  We are doing the same this fall with 7 clubs in the Salt Lake City area. The program involves a combination of nutrition instruction, yoga, a special cooking series, and the distribution of emergency supplemental nutrition in the form of bars and shakes to the kids.

Since the COVID situation arose, we have supplied over 30,000 meal replacements and nutritious shakes, along with the wellness programs they love. And everything is done with no cost at all to the clubs.

Please take a few minutes to check out this new video below which shows what we are doing with these kids, especially on the nutrition side, and addresses our vision for 2021.

Press Release:  August, 2020    Program Update

We continue to remain flexible and expand on our mission to ensure the needs of kids in America are met. Social distancing, job loss and mask wearing are not the only changes we are seeing on the front line. Covid related economic impacts are devastating our most vulnerable population in America and throughout the world. The Brookings Institution reported, The COVID Impact Survey, and The Hamilton Project/Future of the Middle Class Initiative Survey of Mothers with Young Children (based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) food security questionnaire) showed that 40.9 percent of mothers with children, ages 12 and under, reported household food insecurity since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, as compared with 15.1 in a 2018 survey. Food insecurity for children under 12 is an escalating crisis with no end in sight.

We are responding to this new reality with a new pilot proposal focused on nutrition distribution, which is qualitatively different than food distribution. Our effort will focus on organic, clean whole food and nutrition support because there are plenty of pantries in local communities where vulnerable families can pick up a bag of grocery staples that will stave off hunger for a period. OFH aims to fill in the nutrition gaps with premium nutrition.

We also added on demand video cooking classes which are being used in Boys and Girls Clubs that have remained open during COVID, and can be viewed at home so parents can have fun preparing easy, healthy meals and snacks with their  children. Groups of socially distant kids watch the video on a big screen while an adult makes the recipe. When done, the kids get to eat. The reports we are getting is that the children ask daily, “Is the cooking class on today?” We get very excited about that kind of feedback! This class will run for 6 weeks.
Like any non-profit, Grant Funding and donations keep our programs going. Please consider a donation today. Thanks for stopping by!

Press Release ........May 2020

2020 1st Quarter Update

One For Health is proud to be a part of a nationwide COVID 19 rapid response team! To date we have partnered with Boys and Girls Clubs in 8 states across this nation delivering healthy lifestyle programs and education funded by a grant from the ISA Foundation. The following outlines some of the strategies we have implemented to deal with the impacts of Covid19 on these partners:

  • The global pandemic has disconnected our nation’s most vulnerable kids from vitally important nutrition support while sheltering in place. Many of these children's families are unemployed or living paycheck to paycheck having little to no resources during this health crisis. As a part of our rapid response we have distributed 21,000 nutritious kids smoothies across the nation to members of our Boys and Girls Club partners, in addition to other nonprofits serving children. This nutrition support was generously donated by Isagenix and the ISA Foundation

  • In addition, we have been working together with BGC staff in Greater Washington to launch a virtual BestSelf4Kids Yoga and dance live streaming program as well as on demand video of youth focused yoga.

  • As of April 21 our Arizona Club partners serving first responder and health care workers children in the club house setting, have delivered on demand yoga instruction to 120 children 7 to 14 years old! We continue to find new ways to produce quality on demand videos and live streaming to meet the challenges and needs of these kids.
