11/17/2021 5 Comments November 17th, 2021Ronda Rockett, owner and head coach of CrossFit Launchpad, knew that partnering with One for Health was an important and impactful decision. Rockett’s gym is one of the first businesses to officially participate in OFH’s new Frisbee Program, and her experience is a testament to the program’s fruitful future. When OFH approached Rockett and explained the goals of the Frisbee Program, the decision to become a partner was made quickly. “I loved [One for Health’s] emphasis on physical fitness, and bridging all socioeconomic statuses to give people education about it,” Rockett said. “I also loved the idea that when a frisbee lands at your foot, we’re all going to do the same thing. No matter who you are or what you know, you’ll pick it up and throw it back to someone. It’s a great way to get active and form connections between people.” Rockett said the emphasis on forming meaningful connections drew her in and ultimately led to the decision to get involved. She noted that a special part of her gym is the community her members have formed, and she wants to be part of fostering those connections through OFH. “We come together when someone’s had a death in the family, or something to celebrate, or someone's kid has a performance, really anything. We’re all there for each other,” Rockett explained. “It’s a bit like living in a commune, because we’re like brothers and sisters. We are all different ages and we all work out together. It's pretty amazing what it does for not only your physical health but psychological and spiritual health, too.” After seeing the value in community, Rocket is eager to collaborate with OFH and help bring health and wellness to others. The educational component of OFH’s work is an additional motivating force, making it a more meaningful collaboration. This pairing is no surprise, as Rockett has been part of the fitness and health community for a long time. “I was a competitive swimmer as a kid, and ended up swimming at Harvard. After that, I ran three marathons, got into step aerobics, really anything to stay active,” Rockett said. “I did a little bit of everything until I found CrossFit.” Rocket says finding CrossFit changed her life. She fell in love with the sport and the community she had found within it. She also saw the benefits of its ideology, and many of the concepts from CrossFit trickled into her work as a family physician. “So many of the problems I was seeing in exam rooms were problems I knew simple changes that I learned from CrossFit could alleviate,” Rockett recalled. It was at this point in her career that she decided to make the switch. She secured her coaching certification and opened up her gym. “I feel like I’m making more of a difference and an impact now by actually getting people active,” Rockett said. “We have loud music, tons of endorphins, and a community of friends to motivate people to make lifestyle changes.” In addition to One for Health’s wellness-centric focus, the ability to give back to an organization of her choice through the Frisbee Program was something that influenced Rocket’s decision to become a partner. CrossFit Launchpad has a longstanding tradition of giving back through its relationship with the Family Nurturing Center in Dorchester, MA. The organization provides families with mentoring to cultivate functional and nurturing relationships. Opportunities to help the Family Nurturing Center, like the Frisbee Program, are always on Rockett’s radar. “I dropped the frisbees off at the Family Nurturing Center, and they were just so excited to receive them,” Rockett said with a smile. “They’ll go to good use there, straight to the kids.” Rockett is proud to partner with OFH and be part of their Frisbee Program. She hopes to reiterate the power of educating children – and people of all ages – about the importance of health and fitness. CrossFit Launchpad and the community they’ve established are living proof of the power of numbers in achieving good health. “The beauty of our community is that you’re motivated by the people around you,” Rockett said. “They’re the proof of what healthy eating and consistent exercise can do for your mind, body, and more. I love that One for Health is trying to provide this for kids everywhere.”
