Welcome to the OFH Teen Yoga and Nutrition Sessions

Picture
Rana Kirkland - Youth Specialist

One for Health yoga and nutrition instructor, Rana Kirkland, has made having a healthy mind and body a priority. The Long Island/NY native has managed to center her life around movement and nutrition, and continued these efforts through career changes, cross-country moves, and more. Today, as a key member of One for Health’s network, Kirkland is using her background and skillset to help the nonprofit fulfill their mission.

Through the years and breadth of her experience, Kirkland is the perfect candidate to help One for Health expand on the West Coast. In addition to conducting classes in-person, Kirkland has also worked with One for Health to create a virtual yoga experience that can be used at Boys and Girls Clubs that are still easing back into hosting guests after the pandemic.

This yoga video is ideal for teens or kids who have developed a yoga practice. As students begin to deepen their yoga practice, this is a great opportunity to ease into a longer length and challenging practice. For the site staff who chose to join along, great to have you! Either way, please remind students to breathe deeply and focus within.

It’s relaxing yet fun. Enjoy!
This is a simple introduction to meditation. It offers a thorough explanation for beginners followed up by a brief time to relax the mind and body. For those students who find remaining still more challenging, they can receive gentle reminders from the site so that the rest of the students can maintain focus.

Meditation enhances memory, learning and emotional self-regulation.

Feel welcome to listen to it often for better results of calm and centeredness.
Note: This video requires some adult supervision. Students can assist with preparing the foods to cook but there should be an adult managing the chopping and stovetop. What's nice about this dish is that it's simple and the ingredients can be easily increased to meet the needs of large groups. Enjoy!   :)

It’s a tasty side dish for any occasion.

If you were to prepare this for two people, you would use:

One eggplant, thinly sliced
A half cup of butter
A half cup of oil
A teaspoon of salt
A teaspoon of your favorite seasoning
Two cups of non-dairy cheese
