Yoga and How it Can Benefit Your Kids

  1. Yoga builds concentration. Certain yoga breathing exercises and meditation practices can promote relaxation, focus and decrease stress. By getting your kids to sit and fixate on deep breathing they’re also working on increasing their lung capacity, healthy hormones are released and children become more in tune with their bodies.
  2. Yoga is a healthy, non-competitive alternative to team sports. Some kids aren’t as athletically inclined or are too introverted to want to get involved in team sports. Yoga is a really good way to keep kids active without forcing them to do more conventional types of exercise.
  3. Yoga helps children become stronger, more flexible, and improve balance. Poses like sun salutation, and all different types of planks help strengthen muscles. Poses like downward-facing dog and child’s pose help promote flexibility. Poses like tree pose and lord of the dance pose improve balance.

  1. Smoothies are a simple healthy after school snack for kids. Not only is it an easy way to sneak vegetables into your picky eaters diet but it’s also a great way to make sure your child is getting the necessary serving of fruits/vegetables each day.
  2. Avocado on multi-grain toast is a great alternative to sugar filled jelly and chocolate hazelnut spreads on white bread. Avocados are full of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins K, E, B6, C and potassium, which are all essential to your child's growth and development.
  3. Fresh fruit pops are a fun, creative and healthy alternative to your average store-bought popsicle. Instead of giving your kid an artificial, sugar packed popsicle, make your own by placing a combination of your child's favorite fruit in popsicle molds, fill with coconut water and freeze!
